We were so excited to see what a huge success Girls Coding Day turned out to be, and we can not wait to continue this new tradition into the years to come. Over 100 students came out to learn new tech skills from our incredible volunteers. We had volunteers from 17 companies join us and act as inspirational mentors for the girls. Everyone, regardless of skill level, was able to learn something new.
4th-6th graders used MIT App Inventor and Swift Playground to create their own mobile app with the help of knowledgeable volunteers. 7th-12th graders spent the day building their own personalized website. We had a creative bunch, and we encourage you to visit this webpage to see some examples of their hard work and creativity. Girls Coding Day was a wonderful way to celebrate Maydm’s 1 year anniversary, and we’ve launched #itsinhercode, a celebration of the power of women: a movement to elevate one another, to embrace the ambition, tenacity, and creativity of women who are building software that is changing the world.
We want to thank our key sponsors Google, Alliant Energy, and Mfotek, for making this event possible. Girls Coding Day has set an amazing path for the coming year, and we hope you continue to follow our journey in 2017.
