How 2eof $10,000 Donation Enables Maydm Youth to Code
“…This camp is special, because if you teach a girl coding, you can change the world…”
– Ruth
Thanks to 2nd Market Capital Economic Opportunity Foundation (2eof) $10,000 Matching Grant, Maydm will provide girls and youth of color in grades 6-12 in Madison with skill-based training for the technology sector. 2nd Market Capital Economic Opportunity Foundation (2eof) supports local organizations working to positively impact the lives of children and young people in our community by providing grants (primarily through matching funds) for education, youth development, and career and workforce readiness programs.
Maydm has been operating since 2016 and has served over 800 middle and high school students through immersive three and five week summer programs that expose students to the academic and professional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. “We continue to take a holistic approach to preparing our students for a future in these fields and the 2nd Market Capital Economic Opportunity Foundation (2eof) $10,000 Matching Grant will allow us to build the infrastructure necessary to grow and extend our impact in the community we serve,” shared Winnie Karanja, Maydm Founder and Executive Director.
“Coding is an activity that teaches me how to do stuff on a website. It also teaches me how to work with computers. I have been coding since I was in sixth grade and I have loved it ever since.”
-Taleah
“Children will accomplish anything if no one puts doubt into their minds. Our goal is to have our children realize their potential and ability to pursue careers in STEM by supporting and encouraging their interest.” “Our new partnership with 2eof and their donation will help us to progress our goals by supporting our infrastructure through key positions that will help grow our programs throughout Dane County and work with companies to develop paid internships for high school students. We are excited to generate a STEM workforce pipeline in Dane County,” said Karanja.
“What I like about this program is that everyday I come here and get to learn something new. And the ice cream is really good!”
