Summer 2019

     June 17th-June 28th, 2019
This summer 14 middle school girls learned how to program and build their own portfolios of projects in Maydm’s {Dev}Girls program
located at Milwaukee School of Engineering and sponsored by Rockwell Automation. These girls finished their 2- weeks with a
public showcase of their compiled portfolios they coded via codepen.
They learned HTML and CSS to create their mini projects such as a movie poster and a model of a solar system.

“Me gusto todo lo que me están ensenando porque no conocía nada de esto y por eso me gusta.”

“I liked everything that [the instructors] are teaching me because I did not know anything about [coding] and that’s why I like it”

“What I like about coding is how we get to create and design our own websites. It gives us a chance to express ourselves.”

The Milwaukee {Dev}Girls were able to go on various field trips,
such as Harley Davidson Musuem and Rockwell Automation,
to see how coding is used in different professions and in
different mediums. Meeting different people with diverse job
experiences along with spending time with mentors is beneficial
in building onto the students’ confidence level and feelings of

Summer 2018

     June 18th-June 29th, 2018
Maydm youth at an event
The sky was the limit for thirteen bright girls from the Don and Sallie Davis Branch Boys and Girls Club and Golda Meir and Notre Dame
Middle Schools who dove into the world of web development in Maydm’s Adventures in Programming camp hosted at the
Milwaukee School of Engineering and sponsored by Northwestern Mutual and Rockwell Automation. They learned HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript to create their very own websites on topics they are passionate about, including mental health, arts and crafts, teen job
opportunities, philosophy and more! Students bonded with company engineers and got a firsthand look at women in STEM
careers when they visited Rockwell Animation and Northwestern Mutual!

“I really like the Maydm [Adventures in Programming] program. It taught me lot about coding that I didn’t know– about friendship and teamwork.”

“I never had an experience like it. It was so different and I had a lot of fun. I got a better understanding of HTML & CSS. I felt it was really important to learn here and that’s what I did. I feel confident coding with HTML and CSS now.”
